Fight Picks: Conqueror vs. Stalker

By Brett “The Conqueror” Beverly & Jason “Fightstalker” Taylor

Here’s a first, original fight picks on FightStalker.com. It’s more than cool, it’s what we do. So, for your enjoyment, Jason and I will be picking the winners of all UFC events until further notice. Better yet, we’ll be keeping score too. What’s MMA without a little competition?

# Name (MMA record) (UFC record)

#5* Roger Huerta (18-1-1) (4-0) vs. Clay Guida (22-8) (2-2)

Brett “The Conqueror” Beverly: Guida by unanimous decision. With wins over Josh Thomson and Marcus Auriello, and split decision losses to Gilbert Melendez and Tyson Griffin, Guida is one hell of a fighter. This will a trial by fire for Huerta and the fire will win.

Jason “FightStalker” Taylor: Huerta by submission in the 2nd. While I agree that Guida is off the hook, Huerta is on a 10 fight win streak. If there is any chink in Guida’s armor (not likely) it’s his submission defense, (he’s been submitted 4 times), and Huerta has some sweet submission skills.

Tommy Speer (9-1) (0-0) vs. Mac Danzig (16-4-1) (0-0)

Conqueror: Speer by unanimous decision. I think Danzig’s got too good of a ground game to be TKO’d by someone who lacks this kind of experience. At the same time, seeing Speer survive a sick triangle makes me think he’ll overpower Mac.

Stalker: Danzig by TKOin the 1st. Although Speer is bigger & stronger than Danzig, Mac’s precision striking will show Speer’s tendency to drop his hands, and Danzig can keep it standing with his takedown defense.

Jared Rollins (6-3) (0-0) vs. Jon Koppenhaver (4-1) (0-0)

Conqueror: Koppenhaver by TKO in the 1st. With his domination over 7-11 employee’s, Koppenhaver shouldn’t have much trouble with the shockingly mediocre Rollins. That said, this fight could go either way if both fighters don’t show an improvement from the show.

Stalker: Rollins by submission in the 1st. Rollins may be mediocre, but watch him to take it to the ground early and dominate with his ju-jitsu, pulling off the upset of the night.

Billy Miles (2-1) (0-0) vs. George Sotiropoulos (7-2) (0-0)

Conqueror: Sotiropoulos by submission in the 1st. George looks like at stud. Minus his fight against Speer, the Australian looked dominate. Miles has about half the skills and 1/3 the heart. The only thing Miles has going for him is his personality.

Stalker: What he said.

Ben Saunders (4-0-2) (0-0) vs. Dan Barrera (0-0) (0-0)

Conqueror: Barrera by ground in pound in the 2nd. Who else knew that Barrera had NO professional fights on his record? Not me. Well, this is a rematch from the show. Saunders won that one, but version 2.0 should show a more tested and game Barrera.

Stalker: Saunders by unanimous decision. I see a repeat of the last fight.

Troy Mandaloniz (2-1) (0-0) vs. Richie Hightower (7-1) (0-0)

Conqueror: Hightower by submission in the 2nd. Hightower might not have much of a killer instinct, but he’ll just need to show a little experience in the Octagon to pull this one out.

Stalker: Hightower by unanimous decision. Hightower is the more complete fighter, not complete enough for the knockout, but enough to carry him through to a decision in this one.

Matt Arroyo (2-1) (0-0) vs. John Kolosci (8-4) (0-0)

Conqueror: Arroyo by submission in the 1st. Every time Dana White calls people into the “office” and asks them if they are willing to step back in and fight, they lose…bad. This is the case for Kolosci, who was proud just to make it three minutes with Danzig. Arroyo, who should have fought until he got injured, should be able to win this one the same way Mac did, on the ground.

Stalker: Kolosci by split decision. Arroyo has the better ground game, but Kolosci is too powerful to stay down for long.

Roman Mitichyan (3-1) (0-0) vs. Dorian Price (7-2) (0-0)

Conqueror: Mitichyan by submission in the 2nd. It’s hard to say anything about Mitichyan because he didn’t fight on the show. He was the guy who hurt his elbow, which resulted in war machine coming in. I can say he’s got ground, and Price does not, so my pick becomes easy.

Stalker: Mitchyan by unanimous decision. This will be a classic striker vs. grappler bout. I give this one to the grappler.

Paul Georgieff (5-1) (0-0) vs. Jonathon Goulet (20-9) (2-3)

Conqueror: Goulet by TKO in the 2nd. Other than getting knocked out, it’s hard to say anything about Georgieff. That said, I know Jonathon “the Fish” Goulet well. If throwing hands is the name of the game, both of these guys have the jaw to fall hard. Even though Goulet has the ground game of my mother, he won’t need it in this fight.

Stalker: Goulet by TKO in the 1st. Actually, speaking from experience, Conqueror’s mother has a much better ground game than Goulet (I couldn’t resist, you threw me a softball). All kidding aside, Goulet’s superior experience will make short work of Georgieff.
